Naughty Dog is Shutting Down PS3 Multiplayer Servers for Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, and The Last of Us in September
Goodnight sweet princes.
It’s truly the end of an era, folks, as some of the most prominent multiplayer games on the PS3 will finally be closing up shop later this year.
As announced by developer Naughty Dog today, the PS3 multiplayer servers for Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, and The Last of Us are all set to close down officially later this year on September 3, 2019, at 5pm PST. Uncharted 2 specifically will be going offline just a month before the game’s tenth anniversary.
Until September though, Naughty Dog is sweetening the pot just a bit for those who might still want to play each game on PS3. From now until September 3, all multiplayer DLC for each Uncharted 2, Uncharted 3, and The Last of Us will be completely free to download. While I imagine not a whole lot of people still play any of these three games on PS3, this is a nice gesture.
Honestly, this isn’t all that surprising of a move from Naughty Dog for a variety of reasons. First off, we’re nearly about to hit the PS5 generation so it makes sense for these longstanding PS3 servers that are still active to finally be wrapped up.
Furthermore, you can still get your Uncharted multiplayer fix on PS4 via Uncharted 4 and The Last of Us Remastered also boasts multiplayer. So if for some reason you haven’t made the jump to PS4 yet and you want to continue playing these games online in some way, you still have that option available.
More than anything, this is just further proof that the PS3 is on its last legs more than ever before. While these three Naughty Dog games might soon be unavailable on PS3 for play, the memories will still remain.
