Rumors have floated around about the cancellation of the upcoming Hitman game for about two weeks now. Last week these rumors were debunked and this week we learn that not only is this game in development but that it will be an ambitious undertaking.

In an open letter to fans of the series, the Io-Interactive Team revealed some details about the current gen Hitman game.

The game will take series protagonist, Agent 47 “across expansive, exotic locations around the world”. The game will be open world and the levels are said to be huge and checkpoint free. This title will have a level of detail not seen in the series. It won’t completely abandon what’s come before as past titles like Absolution, Contracts and Blood Money were big inspirations for this game.

Players will be able to create challenges thanks to the return of Contracts Mode. Contracts Mode allows you to create missions that follow rules that you set up. You can share these Contracts online and challenge people to complete your hits. With the size of the levels being so huge, there will be a lot of room for experimentation.

The new Hitman game is currently in development for PC, Playstation 4 and Xbox One. The team promises to reveal more information as we get further into the year.
