A new game that puts players in the captain seat of the Star Trek universe is on its way to mobile.
Developer Disruptor Beam, the same studio behind Game of Thrones Ascent, announced today that they will be releasing a new role-playing stratagy game, Star Trek: Timelines.
Players will build a crew from scratch, choosing from a huge roster of characters spanning the franchises numerous series. Picard, Spock, Data, Kirk and others all will be accessible. The selected will then explore the galaxy in one of many iconic star-ships.
Player will navigate through new universes as well as tricky diplomatic waters as the game will focus more on exploration and problem solving as opposed to conflict.
“It isn’t a first-person shooter or a MMORPG-oriented environment where the action is about running around and blasting everyone with your phasers. There are already Star Trek games that feature first-person action—and we also feel that a combat-oriented game wouldn’t really capture the vision of Star Trek,” says Jon Radoff, CEO of Disruptor Beam. “Instead, we’re going to focus on giving you beautiful vistas of outer space, artistic renderings of your favorite characters, and a conflict mechanic where science and diplomacy are just as important as your ability to fire photon torpedoes.”
No date has been set for the release but today’s announcement was accompanied by a trailer that featured voice talents from some of the most prolific characters in the series.
