In the past few months, we have seen a number of indie games becoming extremely popular in the gaming industry. After the Fall Guys frenzy, Valheim turned out to be the next big sensation in the gaming industry. With over two million players to date and a whopping 300k concurrent player count, the game doesn't seem to slow down anytime soon. Developer Iron Gate has been frequently releasing updates to the game and adding various improvements and quality of life changes. In fact, it is even expanding its team for future updates as it has quite a lot planned for the game.

Iron Gate has today released another patch for Valheim which will be bringing some significant changes to dedicated servers. This will lower the latency to a large extent and fix the connection issues which were present in the previous updates. Here are the complete patch notes of the update.

Valheim Update 0.147.3 (Today, March 3) - Patch Notes

Today's patch has some huge changes to dedicated servers. Dedicated servers now always use direct connections instead of using Steam Datagram Relay (SDR). This should result in much lower latency for most players. Private dedicated servers are enabled by adding "-public 0" to the server command line (See server manual PDF). You can only connect to private dedicated servers using the "Join IP"-button. I really hope this patch solves a lot of connection issues introduced in last week's patches ( due to switching socket backend ). In addition to these dedicated-server fixes valve is also working on fixes to the SDR system (used when connecting to non-dedicated servers) and I believe there is already a beta-steam-client available that fixes some of these issues.
