Today’s issue of Weekly Famitsu included a spread on the upcoming JRPG by Compile Heart Valneer of the Dragon Star.
First of all, we meet three new characters, we start with two antagonists with the ruthless witch hunter Ruby Eye, and the knight Corbelia. Another new heroine is the young witch Faar.
We learn more about combat, which starts on a middle level (in elevation) and the player can move and fight freely to the upper and lower levels. Player characters and enemies attack in order depending on their speed. The order of action is displayed on the upper right of the screen.
Three party members can participate in battles, but there can also be support characters. Formation influences attack and defense. Physical attacks can hit only enemies at the same level and can cause critical hits. Magical attacks can’t cause critical hits but will damage enemies regardless of their position in the levels, and can deal additional damage when using elemental magic on monsters weak to that element.
It’s possible to “eat” an enemy dragon by using predatory skills, acquiring their abilities. The more “fear” the characters accumulate by fighting, the easier it is to consume the dragon’s powers. Fear accumulates faster when dealing critical hits or attacking an enemy weak point. Yet, when the predatory skills fail, the fear gauge returns to zero.
When the “fear” gauge reaches 100&, it’s possible to execute a rush attack with all three characters. If this brings the HP of the enemy to zero, the predatory skill succeeds automatically.
When receiving damage, another gauge grows, and when it’s full the “Dragon awakening” is activated. This improves a character’s stats and a dedicated finishing blow can be used. If it happens when HP is very low, defense power is decreased but attack power and avoidance rate is increased.
Valneer of the Dragon Star will be released in Japan only on PS4 on October 11th.
