Valve has announced on their new Linux blog that they plan on starting a private external beta for 1,000 users to try out Steam on Linux sometime in October.

The beta will give access to Steam, a Valve game, and will have support for Ubuntu 12.04 and above. Not included at the moment are Big Picture mode and other games.

Information on signing up will be announced on the blog soon so those who are excited about Valve dipping in the Linux pool will want to keep an eye out for more information.
