Vampire: The Masquerade began its life as a tabletop RPG back in the early '90s. It was then picked up and translated to the world of video games in 2000. There's been a range of titles in the series, including two games that are due for release next year - Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 and Vampire: The Masquerade - Swansong.

They're not the only projects from the Vampire: The Masquerade world that are in development though. Newly founded Swedish studio, Sharkmob, has confirmed they are working on another instalment in the series. While the existing games in the franchise are mostly narrative-driven RPG's, Sharkmob's game is far from that.

The title, which is yet to receive an official name, is set in the same universe as the other games, however, rather than sticking to the status quo, is braving the saturated market of battle royales. In their update, the developers say:

"Experience the next thrilling evolution of Battle Royale multiplayer action games set in the cult classic Vampire: The Masquerade universe where vampire sects are at war across the streets and rooftops of Prague.

Choose your playstyle, go solo or together, battling rivals and the hostile Entity who’s hellbent on exterminating all vampires. Use your supernatural powers, weapons and blood to become stronger in order to hunt, fight and survive the night."

The game is due for release in the second half of 2021, much like Bloodlines 2. It's not yet clear what platforms the battle royale is due to come out on.

Alongside the announcement, Sharkmob also released an action-packed, R Rated cinematic trailer for the game.

In addition to the Vampire: The Masquerade battle royale, Sharkmob has said they are working on two other titles. These other games "are highly ambitious, AAA quality projects powered by the Unreal Engine."
