Vanillaware president George Kamitani has expressed his desire to port the hack-and-slash Wii title Muramasa to new platforms, despite "certain issues" that he did not elaborate on (via a recent interview with Nintendoeros). However, Kamitani says the priority, for now, is to complete the studio's current projects.

Muramasa is a 2D action-adventure game that tells of conflicts set in the Genroku period of Japan (1688-1704) and is renowned for utilizing a beautiful and unique hand-drawn style reminiscent of Japanese Ukiyo-e paintings. According to Kamitani, Muramasa was created with the intention to expand on the world of Genroku through sequels and DLCs and mentioned he still has a number of ideas for a Japanese-style setting.

That said, the president has also been talking to Vanillaware's team about the possibility of revamping their action RPG Dragon's Crown with additional characters, in the style of Capcom's Dungeons & Dragons: Chronicles of Mystara. Ultimately, the director wants to create a new game which is preferably set in a Japanese setting or a dark fantasy setting, and even if it doesn't end up being Muramasa, he still wants to integrate his ideas into a different Japanese work or a darker setting than Dragon's Crown.

The director also delved a bit in his interview about the studio's upcoming title, GrimGrimoire OnceMore. It expands on the original PlayStation 2 Wizard RTS game GrimGrimoire with a brand-new skill tree, and improved UI, among other things. He said that this is the work he is most fond of because of how well its constructed. It is also the title that took him the least time to finish writing for, with only two months, compared to five to six months on Odin Sphere and Muramasa, and four years on 13 Sentinels: Aegis Rim.

Muramasa is currently available on PlayStation Vita as Muramasa Rebirth, an enhanced port that contains restored cut content from the Wii version, so this is the version players can expect if the team decides to give the title a second chance. GrimGrimoire OnceMore, is set to release next April for PlayStation 5, PlayStation 4, and Nintendo Switch, and other projects are teased to be in collaboration with ATLUS.
