Several Genshin Impact players have been debating whether Venti was actually nerfed or not since the launch of Version 2.0 and the Inazuma region - Update on September 1: Six weeks later, it's fair to say Venti was "buffed" now with Version 2.1. See the details below.

Version 2.1: "Buffed" Venti (September 1, 2021, update)

miHoYo revealed a very important detail in the patch notes for Version 2.1 Floating World Under the Moonlight. It will reduce the weight of the new enemies in Inazuma. Including the ronin enemies and the Fatui Mirror Maiden. In other words, Venti's E and Q affect all these enemies now. Venti can CC them.

Be sure to check and read our original story below. I've included important details regarding nerfs and buffs in gacha games. In any case, this is proof miHoYo doesn't plan to "nerf" Venti by only adding heavy-type mobs. And it's always possible that if a mob is too heavy for Venti, miHoYo will change it in future updates, "buffing" Venti in the process.

Venti nerfed rumors and debate explained

After the launch of 2.0, I've seen several players on social media discussing whether the Anemo Archon was nerfed secretly by miHoYo. There are several things you need to keep in mind in this discussion.

Needless to say, Genshin Impact's battle system and Artifacts substats system makes it so any character is strong. If used with the right combinations of party members and Artifacts. Some characters can definitely be considered inherently stronger than others though. Because of how easy they are to use, or how easy it is to find the right Artifacts substats for them. And it's undeniable Venti is one of these characters. Venti getting nerfed would be a huge game-changer.

With the launch of Inazuma in Genshin Impact, miHoYo added several enemies in the game who are impervious to Venti's Elemental Burst. The cyclone cannot suck in the samurai enemies of Inazuma. Which makes Venti slightly less useful.

However, it's still too early to judge if this is a true nerf. The fact that the new Inazuma enemies are unaffected makes sense seeing they're all samurai wearing armor. It'd be fair to claim Venti was nerfed if miHoYo adds more heavy enemies. But for now, it's too much of a stretch. Especially seeing the character himself was untouched. Venti's E and Q are still incredibly useful. Heavy enemies or not.

The taboo of nerfed character in gacha games

With Genshin Impact's huge breakthrough, many fans within the player base have been discovering gacha games for the first time. This is especially true for the English player base outside Japan and Asia. Which makes it easier for misinformation to spread. It's very important to note that for any game nowadays with gacha elements, it's taboo for developers to nerf characters after their official release.

When it comes to gacha games / social games, and Japanese-stylized games with gacha elements like Genshin Impact, nerfs rarely ever happens. And it's very unlikely miHoYo will ever do so. This would be the easiest way to upset the game's player base. Especially in Japan, whose players aren't used to nerfs. And miHoYo wants to avoid that at all costs seeing the game already dealt with several false accusations at launch one year ago, damaging its reputation.

It's likely to be fake rumors if you see claims stating a gacha game nerfed a character. Changes that happen during each Version's Beta Test prior to launch aren't "nerfing" or "buffing" either. As the characters are still in development and subject to change.

Genshin Impact will launch its Version 2.1 on September 1. The reset for the Genesis Crystals top-up double bonus will happen then. You can always reach me on Twitter @A_iyane07 to discuss the game or Japanese stuff in general.
