On July 7, the Vinland Saga anime held a special event to celebrate its 2nd anniversary, where a season 2 was officially announced. We've got a retrospective trailer announcing the sequel, several key visuals, and messages from the staff and original author Makoto Yukimura.

Vinland Saga Season 2 confirmed

No studio behind the anime's new season was announced yet. So you can make your guesses on who will handle this sequel. However, some of the staff from season 1 was confirmed to come back. But first take a look at the trailer:

Shūhei Yabuta, who directed the first season, is returning as the director of Vinland Saga season 2.

Takahiko Abiru, who worked on season 1 as character designer, chief animation director, and animation director for several episodes including the OP, is back on this sequel. He also shared a message on Twitter:

Vinland Saga's mangaka Makoto Yukimura also shared his own celebration message on Twitter.

He launched the original manga in 2005, and it won several awards since. There are 25 volumes out in Japan. The first anime season adapted the first eight volumes. When you think about it, it's actually surprising it took until 2019 for Vinland Saga to get a TV anime.

No release date estimate was confirmed yet for Vinland Saga s2, so I'd personally expect it to start in 2022. Outside Japan, the series will probably be licensed by Amazon Prime Video again.
