Today, Sega announced that they will port to PS4 in Japan three past Virtual-On games: Virtual On: Cyber Troopers, Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Oratorio Tangram ver 5.66, and Cyber Troopers Virtual-On Forces.

Virtual-On: Cyber Troopers is the first game in the series, released by Sega for arcades in 1995. It's a 3D game pitting two mechas against each other in a wide arena. The game was later ported to Sega Saturn and PC, and was also ported to PS3 and Xbox 360 in 2013.

The Virtual-On series had a huge impact on 3D arena versus games, with its influence still seen today on games like the Gundam Vs. series or Kill la Kill The Game. Part of the series's success was thanks to the arcade version's Twin Stick controller, which was later released on consoles as well to accompany the console versions.

This Twin Stick controller was also announced to make a come-back with these PS4 ports. In June 2018, a crowdfunding project to produce PS4 Twin Stick controllers was launched. The controllers were supposed to accompany the latest Virtual-On game, Toaru Majutsu no Virtual-On, which released for PS4 and PS Vita in Japan in February 2018. Sadly, the crowdfunding didn't reach its goal. Today, Tanita, the company producing the Twin Stick, announced they're launching the crowdfunding again. You can find its page here.

For now, all three ports have no release date or further information like a western release.

Update: The Twin Stick crowdfunding reached its goal of 44,6 million Yen (around 400 000 dollars) only a few hours after the Virtual-On PS4 ports were announced, with 1231 backers. There are still 42 days until the crowdfunding ends.
