Visionary Developer Hideki Kamiya Calls PlayStation All-Stars Battle Royale a “Rip off”

Hideki Kamiya has always been one of my favorite developers. Not only because he was the driving creative force behind timeless classics like Devil May Cry and Bayonetta, but also because he’s outspoken, and not afraid to say what’s on his mind. To say that Kamiya-san feels that the upcoming PS3 exclusive brawler PlayStation Battle Royale looks similar to Nintendo’s storied Smash Bros. series is a bit of an understatement.

He clarified on Twitter today that he actually thinks the game is a “rip off” and that he doesn’t like rip offs. This was his response to fans asking him whether or not he was looking forward to PASBR. I personally mirror Kamiya-san’s sentiment. At this point the game looks like nothing more than a cash-grab rip off of an insanely popular series. At the same time, you kind of come to expect this sort of thing in this industry.

Also, it wasn’t exactly professional of him to address a fellow developer’s work that way, was it?
