2022's Warhammer Skulls Showcase outlined a veritable treasure trove of upcoming releases for Warhammer fans to salivate over for the next year and beyond. But among the most hotly anticipated of them is Fatshark's Warhammer 40,000: Darktide. For those out of the loop, it's Fatshark's Warhammer 40,000-flavored spin on the Vermintide series. For the completely uninitiated, think along the lines of Left 4 Dead or Back 4 Blood set in the Warhammer universe and you'll be in the ballpark.

While Darktide's slot in the Showcase was short and sweet, it did furnish us with a shiny new trailer. We're treated to a few sweeping vistas of hive city Tertium (the narrating Inquisitor's home turf, as we're told), the streets and gutters of which our ragtag bunch of heroic Imperial misfits will undoubtedly be purging of Chaos filth. Speaking of, we get a few glimpses of our motley crew in the thick of it, including some spectacular action shots of the warp-powered Psyker class zapping a Chaos-aligned Ogryn.

Also of note are the two pre-order editions of Darktide currently available for purchase via Steam and the Windows Store.

Pre-Ordering Warhammer 40,000 Darktide ($39.99 USD on Steam or the Windows Store) gets you:

Pre-order bonuses for Warhammer 40k Darktide
  • The Atoman Star Weapon Trinket: A cosmetic weapon trinket awarded to those who answered in the hour of Atoma’s need.
  • Vanguard of the Imperium Portrait Frame: A cosmetic portrait frame reserved for those first to enter the fray, and last to leave it.

You can also snag the fancy Imperial Edition ($59.99 on Steam or the Windows Store), which includes the following (in addition to the pre-order bonuses):

Bonuses for Warhammer 40k Darktide Imperial Edition
  • Loyalist Pack: Purge heresy in style with these 4 unique class outfits, 8 weapon skin patterns, one set of headgear as well as an Ogryn body tattoo.
  • Mortis Veteran Portrait Frame: A cosmetic portrait frame used to pay tribute to the fallen defenders of Tertium Hive.
  • Caducades Backpack: A cosmetic backpack for human characters. Scavenged from the fallen troops of Cadia, this backpack has been repurposed to serve those still alive and fighting.
  • 2500 Aquilas (Darktide's premium currency)

Warhammer 40,000: Darktide launches on September 13, 2022, for Xbox X|S and PC, and is expected to be available on Xbox Game Pass on day one.
