Warhammer: Vermintide 2 was a solid critical and commercial success when it released in 2018. Until now, the game has been entirely cooperative. That all changes with the announcement of the brand new Versus Mode. Check out the trailer below.

Vermintide 2 - Versus puts you in a 4v4 skirmish against other players. One side plays as the Heroes of Ubersreik, the crop of characters available to play in the main modes. The other side plays as a group of both Skaven and Chaos. These characters are from the dark pact side of the Warhammer universe and will give players to embody the creatures they fight against during the main campaign.

Throughout development, the Vermintide 2 team has made it clear that their focus was solely on cooperative play. Thus, seeing them finally release a PVP mode is very surprising. That said, it looks like a cool twist on what could have been a standard deathmatch mode. By giving you new dark pact characters to mess around with, the team has shown that they're going all in on making this a viable way to enjoy Vermintide 2.

There won't be any crossover between modes, however. So, if PVP is not your thing, you don't need to feel like playing Versus is a requirement to get everything. It will be interesting to see how many players jump over and if this becomes a popular game mode among the player base.

Warhammer: Vermintide 2 is available now on PC, PS4, and Xbox One. Versus mode is coming soon. Stay here on Dualshockers for more news out of E3.
