Wasteland 3 Has Been Delayed Until August
Wasteland 3 was slated to arrive in May but has now been pushed back due to "logistical challenges" stemming from the coronavirus pandemic.
Originally slated to launch in just a few short weeks on May 19, inXile Entertainment’s Wasteland 3 has now been pushed back by a few months.
inXile’s Studio Head, Brian Fargo, made the announcement today via the official Wasteland Twitter account where it was revealed that the new planned launch date for the third installment in the franchise will now be August 28, 2020. Fargo said that the reason for the delay stems from new challenges that have come about as those at the studio have begun working from home to combat the spread of COVID-19.
“We’ve been excited to see the Wasteland 3 Beta so well received, but the reality is that with these new logistical challenges our release was going to be impacted,” Fargo explained. “We’re in a great position with both Microsoft and Deep Silver supporting our desire to ensure the game launches in the best possible circumstances, and to add a few extra months to ensure this is a stellar product on day one.”

Just last week, Xbox Game Studios head Matt Booty acknowledged that Microsoft’s first-party developers were absolutely facing challenges with new development schedules that have come about as a result of the coronavirus. While Booty didn’t state at the time that upcoming games from Xbox’s umbrella would be delayed at the time, he seemed to heavily imply that such a possibility could indeed come about. Even though Wasteland 3 is still a joint product between Deep Silver and Microsoft, it absolutely makes you wonder just how many more games in the future could be in danger of being delayed.
While inXile Entertainment is part of Xbox Game Studios, Wasteland 3 will be releasing on PS4, Xbox One, and PC when it arrives later this year. Unfortunately, it seems like this could be the tip of the spear when it comes to upcoming games getting delayed. We’ll be sure to keep you posted on all things Wasteland 3 and otherwise moving forward.
