Today, UK developer Compulsion Games announced that We Happy Few is set to leave Early Access and launch on April 13, 2018. Further, in addition to the previously announced Xbox One and PC, the game will also be coming to PS4. All versions of the game will ship on the day.

Compulsion Games also revealed that Borderlands developer Gearbox Software -- who has been increasing its presence in the publishing space as Gearbox Publishing -- has signed on as a publisher.

A former Kickstarter title, We Happy Few has been in Early Access on the above-mentioned platforms since July 2016, garnering considerable attention along the way mostly for its BioShock-esq vibes.

For those that don't know: We Happy Few is a first-person action adventure game that takes place in the drug-fueled, retrofuturistic city Wellington Wells, a little English town in an alternate 1960's timeline. In Wellington Wells, inhabitants in an attempt to block out their traumatic memories of the town's past, take a literal happy pill called "Joy."

Playing through the storylines of three distinct citizens with wildly different perspectives, you'll explore Wellington Wells, encounter its offbeat characters, and uncover a few secrets along the way. Whether you choose to fight your way out of inevitable conflicts, sneak past, or blend in with the townsfolk by mimicking their wacky ways, all you need to do is not get caught, especially off you Joy. Because only "Downers" don't take their joy, and the people of Wellington Wells don't like Downers.

Wellington Wells is procedurally generated, meaning that no two playstyles will ever be the same. And while the game is often just referred to as a mere sandbox survival game, Compulsion Games insists this not the case. Unlike the current Early Access version, the final game will contain a full story that the developer has been working on for over 3 years, featuring many fully voiced encounters and quests. The game has and continues to change a lot since it debuted on Early Access. Further, if you aren't into the game's survival gameplay features, you can turn them off. As simple as that.

Gearbox Software also confirmed a Deluxe Edition and DLC Season today. The Season Pass will consist of three pieces of additional game content, which have yet to be divulged.

There will also be a collector's edition, which will include the following:

  • Replica Bobby Mask
  • The “You Look Smashing” 3-Tiered Lamp
  • Uncle Jack Alarm Clock
  • We Happy Few Soundtrack on Vinyl
  • And more!

While We Happy Few -- which will be available at retail and digitally -- will normally run at $59.99 USD, the Collector's Set will run at $149.99 and be limited in supply.

If you pre-order the title  you will receive a 15% discount and the in-game Jolly Brolly parasol weapon. PS4 players who pre-order will also get an exclusive bonus in the the form a We Happy Few dynamic theme made by Truant Pixel. Meanwhile, Early Access and Game Preview Program owners will receive the full game at no extra cost.
