What’s Microsoft Azure Cloud – New partnership with Sega explained

The Azure Cloud platform from Microsoft is made of various Cloud services to help managing applications. The services include tools for PaaS (platform-as-a-service), IaaS (infrastructure-as-a-service), and SaaS (software-as-a-service).

However, unlike Google Stadia, Azure wasn’t made for gaming in mind, (and even then, Google only thought Stadia was made with gaming in mind). Sega’s inclusion is looking to change that.

It should come as no surprise Sega and Xbox has been particularly close lately. Most notably seeing the initially exclusive release of Phantasy Star Online 2 in the West on Windows Store and Xbox consoles. And this new partnership should have a big impact when it comes to Sega free-to-play and games as a service.

What it means for Persona 6 and future Atlus games?

First, it’s not secret Persona 6 is in development at Sega and Atlus, and the game was already officially teased. We should hear more in Fall 2022. Read the details regarding the teasers so far here.

Next, Sega these past few years has been strengthening its presence on PC and Xbox, with the previously mentioned release of PSO2 in the west. Or the fact that Persona 5 Strikers was the first new Persona game to receive a simultaneous release on PS4, Switch, but also on Steam in the West.

Long story short, this new partnership is focused on F2P and game as a service for now, but could very well mean Persona 6 and future Atlus games will be receiving Xbox One and Xbox Series X simultaneous releases as well. A good first step would be bringing previous Persona games to Xbox Game Pass as well – such as Persona 5 Royal; For now, this is all speculation, but we’ll be sure to tell you if something happens.
