Poise in Elden Ring explained: here's our guide to help you understand how the Poise stat works in Elden Ring and whether it's worth prioritizing or not.

Elden Ring has been released for a week now, and the game reutilizes most if not all gameplay systems from the past games in the Souls series. One of these is the Poise stat.

Here's how Poise works in Elden Ring

Poise is the stat that determines how much you can hyper armor through hits without getting staggered. This means that for example, if you're in the middle of an attack motion while getting hit, your character won't stop and will keep going through with their attack.

Several Elden Ring players however have noted since release that their character keeps getting staggered at 30, 40, or even 50 Poise. This led to debates discussing whether the Poise stat is bugged or not. As it's not uncommon at all for bugs related to stats or equipment to be present in the Souls series.

Is the Poise stat bugged?

The Poise stat actually isn't bugged in Elden Ring, but will only show benefits at much higher thresholds than in the rest of the Souls series. Players reported that their character gets staggered less starting at 50 Poise and higher.

After several players pooled the results of their experiments together, it looks like nearly every melee attack in Elden Ring, even from small and light weapons, will deal over 50 Poise damage to the player. Meanwhile, ranged attacks like getting hit by arrows deal much less Poise damage.

Is Poise worth it?

Unless you manage to go over 60 or even 70 Poise, it's not worth it and if you're looking for an easier experience with a close-quarters build, it'd be best to go with a lighter build and to roll to dodge attacks rather than trying to tank.
