Let’s face it; we’ll all miss Shepard once his saga comes to an end later this year in Mass Effect 3. That leads many to wonder how the post-story gameplay of ME3 will work out. The first Mass Effect game had a New Game + Mode and Mass Effect 2 let you explore the Universe after the story’s conclusion. It would only be fitting for the third installment to combine these two gameplay elements into one and that’s exactly what Bioware has done. It’s already been confirmed that Mass Effect 3 will have a New Game + Mode but Mass Effect series executive producer, Casey Hudson, has stated, “it’s a hybrid of the two”.
He went into more detail about Mass Effect 3’s post-game stating, “We’re going to have a version of the post-game state that you can go back to and finish more stuff, but then we’ll have stuff you can loop back around and do in new game+.” It pretty much sounds like two separate options but I’m sure it will be a bit more complex than that. It’s possible the character you’ll end up controlling (we don’t know the ending of ME3) will be weaker or stronger after the story is completed. Who knows…maybe Bioware will pull the ol’ Red Dead Redemption post-story surprise?
