When Did Wanda Become Scarlet Witch and How was she so Powerful?

Here's what exactly happened with Wanda.

May 8, 2022

In Doctor Strange 2, we saw the true powers of the Scarlet Witch. She singlehandedly defeated the Illuminati, and Doctor Strange had to resort to unethical means to stop Wanda. It’s the same Wanda that couldn’t save Vision from Thanos. So, it’s normal for fans to wonder when exactly our beloved Wanda becomes the Scarlet Witch and how the hell she is so damn powerful.

Marvel Studios truly made some bold choices in Multiverse of Madness. For most Marvel fans, it was more of a horror movie, especially when we saw Wanda butchering every member of the Illuminati. “We can handle your little witch,” they said; little did they know that five minutes later, that same Witch would kill them without breaking a sweat. In the end, even Doctor Strange’s dream walking couldn’t stop Wanda. Even America Chavez, who later got some control over her power, couldn’t defeat the Scarlet Witch. In the end, it was Wanda who decided to stop after realizing the monster she had become.

Obviously, Multiverse of Madness ended the debate for now by establishing Wanda as the most powerful Avenger, at least for now. However, not every Marvel fan knows when exactly Wanda transitioned to hold the title of the Scarlet Witch.

Here’s When Wanda Becomes the Scarlet Witch

If you look at it, Wanda’s pain after losing Vision started her transition toward becoming the Scarlet Witch. However, she ultimately became Scarlet Witch during her final fight against Agatha Harkness in the final episode of WandaVision.

Agatha tells Wanda that the magic she used to alter reality is the Chaos Magic, suggesting that she is the Scarlet Witch. Wanda does not accept this at first; however, she later gets her magic back from Harkness and becomes the Scarlet Witch. Then, at the end of the show, we see the Scarlet Witch casting spells from the Darkhold.

In the show, Agatha says that “The Scarlet Witch is not born; she is forged. She has no coven. No need for incantation’…Your power exceeds that of the Sorcerer Supreme. It’s your destiny to destroy the world.” By stating these words, Agatha confirms how powerful Scarlet Witch is, and in fact, there’s a whole chapter dedicated to her in the Darkhold, the book of the Damned.

So, when Wanda becomes the Scarlet Witch, Agatha warns her about the power she has unleashed upon this world. That’s because even at that moment, Scarlet Witch was powerful enough to destroy the world.

So, it was clear that even without the Darkhold, Scarlet Witch surpassed the Sorcerer Supreme in terms of power. However, the dark spells of the Darkhold take her potential to extreme levels. With the book, she has the power to rule the multiverse or destroy it.

So, it’s no wonder that simply by dream walking, the Scarlet Witch quickly obliterated all the members of the Illuminati, who, by the way, defeated Thanos.
