What's The Plot of Dune?

The premise of Dune is set in the year 10191 when Duke Leto Atreides takes charge of mining Melange, a mineral that's also known as Spice. The most valuable mineral in the entire universe extends human life and also makes faster-than-light travel possible.

However, Arrakis desert planet is the only place where the mineral is available. Also, giant sandworms make extracting this Spice a lot complicated. Nevertheless, Duke takes his son, Paul, and concubine Lady Jessica to the planet and still begins mining.
