Easily the most surprising (and perhaps the biggest) of Sony’s announcements during E3 2015 was the long-awaited and near-rapturous reveal of the Final Fantasy VII remake, and while in all likelihood the newly-remade version is still years away from release, those looking to jump back into Midgar for a refresher with the original title can do so this fall.
Over on Square Enix’s official North American website, the page for the upcoming PS4 port of the original Final Fantasy VII, originally announced during last December’s PlayStation Experience event, has been updated with a release date of October 16th, 2015. The price for the PS4 port is set at $15.99 on PSN.
The PS4 version of the game will largely be based on the PC port of Final Fantasy VII, which will also include achievements and capabilities to save game progress to cloud storage.
Final Fantasy VII‘s latest port will arrive for PS4 on October 16th, 2015.
[UPDATE 06/22/15, 4:33pm EDT]: Despite the original date of 10/16/15 posted on the Final Fantasy VII page on Square Enix’s website, a PR representative for Square Enix confirmed in a statement to Game Informer that the date published is incorrect, detailing:
“We can confirm that the published release date for this title is incorrect. As discussed at this year’s E3, Final Fantasy VII will be ported to the PlayStation 4 in Winter 2015. The pricing has already been announced last December to be set at $15.99.”
