Corlys Velaryon In House Of The Dragon: Character Explained

Also known as the Sea Snake, Corlys Velaryon is the lord of the house Velaryon. He was born in 53 AC to the eldest son of Daemon Velaryon. Corlys got his name from his great-granduncle, Ser Corlys Velaryon. He is married to Rhaenys Velaryon, princess of the Targaryen kingdom, and has two children, daughter Laena and son Laenor. The name Sea Snake suits well to Corlys as he is known to be the greatest sailor the seven kingdoms have ever known. From a very young age, he started working on the ships and having long voyages. Despite having everything he wished for, Corlys Velaryon was never satisfied with his life.

People who have read the books already know about Corlys. His name is mentioned in, The World of Ice and Fire, Fire and Blood, The Rogue Prince, and The Princess and the Queen. Unlike most deaths we saw in Game of Thrones, Corlys Velaryon lived an everyday life and had a peaceful and natural death on the sixth day of the third moon of 132 AC. He was seventy-nine at the time of his death, and his body was placed under the Iron Throne for a week.
