Echo In Marvel Comics

In Marvel comics, Maya Lopez is a Native American who was born deaf but she is gifted in other ways. Since childhood, Maya had the ability to replicate any physical move she saw.

After her father is murdered by his own boss, the Kingpin, Maya Lopez is adopted by him. She grows up to become an expert fighter and a concert pianist. Later on, she takes up the alias Echo as she works to take down Daredevil when Kingpin tells her that Daredevil was responsible for killing her father.

Echo hunts down Matt Murdock to get her revenge, which leads to her discovering the truth that Kingpin killed her father.

MCU Tweaks Echo aka Maya Lopez's Past In Hawkeye

In the TV show Hawekeye, Echo appears at the end of the second. Due to her short-lived appearance in that episode, we were unsure what kind of role she'd be playing in the MCU.

But in the third episode, we get to know about Echo aka Maya Lopez's childhood which is pretty much the same as Marvel comics. However, MCU has tweaked her story a bit for the Hawkeye TV show.

Instead of Daredevil, it is Ronin who kills Echo's father. She witnesses the incident and decides to exact revenge on Ronin by hunting him down. For that purpose, she takes over her father's position as the leader of the Tracksuit Mafia.

But Hawkeye suggests that there is someone even above Echo who is the actual boss of this criminal organization. While it isn't shown in the series yet, but we speculate that it is the Kingpin.

Since Kate was spotted wearing the Ronin costume and Hawkeye was spotted helping her, she captures both of them in the third episode to find out who Ronin is.

However, the duo manages to escape at the end of Hawkeye Episode 3. We will have to wait for Episode 4 to find out hether Echo can capture them again or what she'd do next.
