Who is Kate Bishop to Hawkeye in Marvel?

Written by Allan Heinberg, Kate Bishop first appeared in 2005's Young Avengers #1. In the comics, Kate started taking combat training after getting brutally attacked in Central Park.

After getting rescued by Young Avengers, Kate follows them to the Avengers headquarters and tries out the gear of Mockingbird and Hawkeye. She eventually gets a spot on the team after showcasing her skills against Kang The Conqueror.

At the time when Kate Bishop joined Young Avengers, Clint Barton was dead in the comics. Like Barton, Kate didn't have any superhuman abilities. Also, her combat skills were almost similar to Barton's. So, Jessica Jones convinced her to take Hawkeye's name.

Later, Clint Barton does come back to life to become Hawkeye. However, Kate doesn't drop the title, and they both start sharing Hawkeye's name. Then, eventually, Clint becomes the mentor for Kate Bishop.

So, in Marvel comics, Kate and Clint don't share a direct relationship. However, they both create a strong bond after sharing the same superhero name.

After watching the first trailer for Disney's Hawkeye, it's clear that things would be somewhat similar for both of them in the show. Of course, Clint doesn't die in MCU, but he'll become a mentor to Kate Bishop after she takes his identity.
