Today, Marvel dropped a trailer for its first animated series What If...?

What If...? is an upcoming series that reimagines numerous major events from the Marvel movies and shows in creative ways. For instance, in the trailer we see Peggy Carter receiving the super-soldier serum and turning into Captain America instead of Steve Rogers. And that's just one part of the big story!

While the plot of What If...? is definitely fascinating, there is another character called Howard The Duck who is grabbing a lot of attention right now on the internet.

Howard The Duck In Marvel Universe

Howard the Duck is a fictional character created by writer Steve Gerber and artist Val Mayerik for Marvel Comics.

He is a 3-foot tall anthropomorphic duck hailing from a planet in another dimension. The planet he belongs to is called Duckworld, and it is similar to Earth where ducks, instead of apes, evolved to become the dominant species. But there are a lot of similarities between Duckworld and Earth including the fact that Howard can speak English like humans.

Howard The Duck is the eldest son of Dave and Dottie but he continued to be a disappointment for his parents as he couldn't hold any job. He could neither fit into any group or society on Duckworld. Despite his ability to adapt to any situation and society, he felt he had no use for society.

When a demon named Thog used magic to shift the interdimensional Cosmic Axis in hopes that all realities could be collapsed into one under his control; Howard accidentally got plucked from Duckworld and landed on Earth.

The character Howard The Duck got its own comic back in 1976 — and for Marvel, it was a surprising smash hit.

What's The Hype Around Howard The Duck?

The recently released trailer for What If...? shows us a glimpse of Howard The Duck, indicating that the character will be present in the upcoming show. Marvel fans were quick to notice it and hence Twitter started flooding with tweets from die-hard fans who were excited to see the character.

Cameos By Howard In Marvel Movies

This isn't the first time we have seen Howard The Duck in Marvel movies. Till now he has appeared in three other MCU projects which makes it a total of four including the latest one. He appeared mostly in the post-credits scenes in the previous movies:

• Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2
• Avengers: Endgame
• What If…?

Now that Marvel has teased this character so many times, we cannot help but wonder if Howard the Duck might get a solo film or Disney+ series in the future.

For now, we will surely get to see him in What If...? which is arriving on August 11, 2021, on Disney Plus.
