Khonshu in Moon Knight Explained

In Marvel Comics, Khonshu, or Chons, is the Egyptian God of Moon, who was worshipped by the people on Earth in the Early Years. Interestingly, Egyptians worshipped Khonshu since pre-historic times, and in the comics, Khonshu and Atum Ra have been fighting each other for ages through their avatars.

Khonshu chose Marc Spector to be his avatar to impose his will on the planet. Apparently, Marc dies near Khonshu's tomb after he is stranded by Bushman in the desert. However, Khonshu resurrected Marc and blessed him with immense powers to fight against evil and take revenge on Bushman.

On one hand, Marc is familiar with his connection to Khonshu, and on the other hand, Steven Grant is completely unaware of his split personality and Khonshu. However, he does sees Khonshu appearing in front of him several time. The Egyptian God refers to Steven as the "Idiot," and he relies on Marc to do his bidding.

It's Khonshu's connection with Marc that's driving him insane, making it difficult for him to distinguish between his dreams and reality. Fortunately, in the comics, Khonshu helps Marc to gain control over his alternate personality by asking him to "embrace the chaos."

So, you can expect Khonshu to appear in Marc's visions and interact with him several times in the show. Also, the premiere episode ends with Steven handing over the control to Marc, so he'll learn more about Khonshu and other Egyptian Gods in the following episodes.
