If you have heard about Lucasfilm hiring a deepfake creator, then you have probably asked yourself "who is Shamook?" We are here to answer.

It doesn't matter how big or rich a company is. Sometimes if you don't have enough talented people on the board, you won't succeed. This is the scenario that happened in Mandalorian's Luke Skywalker cameo, where the CG look of the character didn't stand out well enough and caused a lot of criticism against Lucasfilm.

Hopefully, instead of justifying the unacceptable quality of CG in its popular series, Lucasfilm starting to look for hiring talented people in the Facial Capture area, and thanks to YouTube, they hired an elite new member.

Who is Shamook?

Mostly known for his deepfake videos, Shamook is the YouTuber that released an improved version of Luke Skywalker's cameo in Mandalorian and received great admiration from fans.

Although his deepfake video for Mandalorian lacks lip-syncs, he managed to improve the quality of Luke's face stunningly, when compared to the original version of the same scene. Just a look in the eyes of both characters tells you how talented the YouTuber is.

Recently, Shamook announced that he has been hired by Industrial Light & Magic, a subsidiary of Lucasfilm, as Senior Facial Capture Artist a few months earlier, which is after his Skywalker deepfake.

Lucasfilm confirmed the announcement and stated that they have been looking for talented and skilled new members to improve their quality of work in machine learning and A.I.

This should be a great lesson for people who don't share their talents on popular social networks. If you are skilled at something, don't be shy and just share it with the world. Who knows, maybe someday you receive an offer from a high-tier company such as Lucasfilm as well.
