Honkai: Star Rail got a new trailer on April 21, 2022, introducing one of the main characters of its galactic story, March 7th - here's her lore so far, her voice actor in English and in Japanese, and why is she named like that in the first place.

Why is March 7th Called this Way in Honkai Star Rail?

March 7th is a mysterious young woman who lost her memories, and she was found by the Astral Express Crew encased in a block of ice in space. She is amnesic and was found on March 7th, so she decided to use it as her new name. She has pink hair and multicolord eyes, a mix of blue and pink.

What is March 7th's Name in Japanese?

In Japanese, she is called Sangetsu Nanoka. Sangetsu is her family name and literally means "March". Nanoka is her given name and literally means "7th day". "Nanoka" is an actual Japanese name so you could argue her name sounds better in Japanese, even if it's still literally "March 7th".

While HoYoverse is originally a Chinese studio based in Shanghai, they're all huge otaku, so it's always worth it to check out their games' lore in Japanese and what kind of translations they used for the characters' names.

Lore so Far

Seeing she already lost her memories once, March 7th's main hobby is taking photos of anything new she sees. That way she could always look back at the photos in case she ever lost her memories again.

Powers and Abilities

March 7th fights using a giant bow and ice-related powers. She tends to make jokes related to photography and poses as she freezes her enemies.

Who is Ogura Yui, Japanese Voice Actor (Seiyuu) of March 7th in Honkai Star Rail?

March 7th is voiced by Yui Ogura in Japanese. Yui Ogura is known for being able to do a particularly high-pitched cute voice, as depicted in her performance as Yunoha in Aquarion Evol. She can also do a more muffled, rough, or cool voice like Chris in Cross Ange or Amu in Summon Night 6. Yui Ogura can also do a great mix of cute and cool, like her role as Feri Al-Fayed in The Legend of Heroes Kuro no Kiseki, the latest part of the Trails Series.

These are the roles that defined Yui Ogura's career so far in my opinion:

  • Rom aka White Sister in the Neptunia series
  • Yunoha in Aquarion Evol
  • Calilica in Ys Memories of Celceta
  • Passionlip in Fate/Extra CCC, FGO, and the Nasuverse

Yui Ogura is also regularly typecasted in gacha games to voice several characters fitting the petite girl aesthetic. Most notably Kyouka and Luna in Princess Connect Re:Dive, Harie and Luna in Granblue Fantasy, IJN I-19 and IJN Yuubari in Azur Lane.

English Voice Actor

In the English dub, March 7th is voiced by Andi Gibson, who recently voiced Impa in The Legend of Zelda Breath of the Wild and Hyrule Warriors 2.
