Many fans are awaiting for Square Enix to finally reveal more on Final Fantasy 16, the next main numbered game in the most popular JRPG series of all time - and I'm convinced we will actually hear more about the game before we enter 2022, during this December 2021.

Final Fantasy 16 received several development updates and comments from its producer Naoki Yoshida during 2021. And it's very likely at least one more update or news will be shared before 2022.

Why we'll get Final Fantasy 16 news before 2022 through Famitsu

Many Japanese game fans already know about it, but every year in the last days of December, Japanese outlets Famitsu and Dengeki publish a compilation of comments from Japanese devs. Hundreds of Japanese game developers are asked to share their thoughts on the closing year. In particular, the event or piece of media that touched them the most, and what are their aspirations or goals for the upcoming year.

Final Fantasy XVI producer Naoki Yoshida is very likely to share something in these comments. As for what this something could be, I'm personally betting on a teaser that the release date for FF16 will be revealed in 2022. Similarly to how Tetsuya Nomura teased in 2018 in those same outlets that Final Fantasy VII Remake would receive big news, a release date, in 2019.

FF16 news and updates shared in 2021

YoshiP shared some FF16 story hints in February 2021. Yoko Taro also had a lengthy discussion with him on the game in July. YoshiP shared more comments on dubbing and motion capture still in July. Lastly in October 2021 at TGS, YoshiP shared some first details on the FF16 Skill Tree system.

Last but not least, Square Enix could share some news too now that the release of Final Fantasy XIV Endwalker is past us. Square Enix has for now announced Final Fantasy XVI as a PS5 exclusive, with no release date estimate.
