Nintendo has recently revealed that users can transfer their data--like saves, game data, Wii points, Miis, and and virtual console games--from the Wii to the Wii U via an SD card. But they haven't detailed how.

Until now.

The following is a step-by-step explanation of how to move data from the Wii to the Wii U:

• First you will need to insert an SD card with at least 512 MB of Ram into your shiny new Wii U.
• Start the transfer application.
• Take the SD card out, put it into the Wii, download the data transfer app, and follow the instructions.
• Finally, you'll return the SD card into the Wii U and complete the application.

Sounds good so far? There's two more things: you also have to keep in mind that both consoles need to be connected to the internet to work, and that you have a controller for each one.

And then the tricky part: the transfer is a one way street. It's final. Unlike, say, the PSN's PSOne Classics existing on the PS3, PSP, and PS Vita at the same time, once you've transferred the data from the Wii to the Wii U, the data is wiped out on both the Wii and the SD card. Data cannot be transferred from the Wii U to the Wii.
