Today, developer Fntastic (previously known as Eight Points) and publisher HypeTrain Digital  announced that plot-driven survival game The Wild Eight is set to finally release on PC via Steam Early Access on February 8, 2017 at the price point of $19.99 USD. As for the Xbox One and PS4 versions of the game, there is still no word on a release date.

When talking about why it chose to release on Early Access, Fntastic in a Steam Community update post says it is because development of the game is still ongoing, and that there's a "big world expansion" it has in mind. Additionally, it needs to further tune the game balance, and fix minor bugs. All of this the developer expects to take around three months.

Fntastic confirmed that multiplayer will be available at the launch of Steam, with the following updates planned for post-Early Access launch:

  1. Game balance and bug fixes based on your feedback
  2. New side-quests and objects
  3. A more advanced combat system including shooting
  4. Better user interface and map
  5. New languages
  6. Mac and Linux Support

Updates will arrive every two weeks, and Fntastic plans for some special cosmetic reward for Early Access players. What exactly this will be -- was not divulged.
