Rumours Hint at Wind Waker HD and Twilight Princess Switch Ports – Could They Happen?
What do we think about potential Wind Waker and Twilight Princess ports?
Last night we were treated to our first Nintendo Direct in almost 18 months. There was elation for some and disappointment for others but overall, it was just good to have them back. Personally, I didn’t expect any Zelda presence during the event. Rather, I expected a standalone The Legend of Zelda anniversary Direct, much like Nintendo did for Super Mario.
Instead, what we received was news on a Hyrule Warriors: Age of Calamity Season Pass and an HD port of the Wii entry into the Zelda franchise, Skyward Sword. Nintendo did also announce a very nice set of Skyward Sword Joy-Cons.
Rumours had been circulating for a while that Skyward Sword, Twilight Princess and Wind Waker HD Switch versions would be available in a single bundle. Much like Super Mario 3D All-Stars but yesterday’s announcement proved that wasn’t the case. That hasn’t stopped the rumour mill from churning however, and last night, the Wind Waker and Twilight Princess gossip started again.
Wind Waker HD Switch Port – What are the new rumours?
The fresh rumours come from VGC Journalist and Yooka-Laylee producer, Andy Robinson. Robinson stateed that ports of “Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are 100% coming this year.”
For those disappointed with the Skyward Sword remaster, Wind Waker and Twilight Princess are 100% coming this year. So that's at least one good 3D Zelda.

Do we believe the rumours?
Considering so little was shared in the way of Zelda news, I stand by my initial thought that we will be getting a special 35th anniversary Direct for The Legend of Zelda. If Nintendo has two more Zelda games they’re porting to the Switch, plus news on the Breath of the Wild sequel, it definitely makes sense they have a blowout video specifically for that.
Robinson also has plenty of experience in the industry and a strong nose for this sort of thing, so if he says it’s 100% happening, there’s a very good chance it is.
What are our thoughts on the Zelda news?
I’m a big Zelda fan but I have two giant gaps in my history of the series, Twilight Princess and Skyward Sword. Twilight Princess came at a time in my life when I fell out of love with Video Games and Skyward Sword was slept on en masse. I’m excited to have the opportunity to play both of these games on my Nintendo Switch.
Then there’s Wind Waker. Breath of the Wild aside, Wind Waker is absolutely my favourite Zelda game. The art and music are incredible, story compelling and sense of exploration grand. Despite not playing the other two games, should they all release at a similar time, this is the one I’ll play through first.
