Nicalis revealed that the will publish the retail version of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap for PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch in the first quarter of 2018 for $39.99.

Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap is an animated remake of the Sega Master System game Wonder Boy III. Players will control a hero cursed by a dragon, who is forced to live in the form of a Lizard-Man and additional forms. His only hope to break the curse is to defeat the dragons throughout the lands.

“We’re huge fans of the Wonder Boy series, and we believe that Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap deserves the full physical retail treatment that was given to our own games like The Binding of Isaac: Afterbirth+ and Cave Story+,” says Nicalis CEO Victor Rodriguez. “We’ve got a deep respect for DotEmu; this is an exciting partnership for us.”

“Thanks to Nicalis’ experience and passion for classic games, Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap will be available on physical cartridges and discs in retail stores—just like in the old days,” says DotEmu CEO Cyrille Imbert. “This is awesome! A full retail release of Lizardcube’s masterpiece is a great way to reflect the spirit of the game and its history.”

Interestingly, Limited Run Games sold a small batch of copies of Wonder Boy: The Dragon’s Trap for PlayStation 4 in limited quantities. However, this will be the first physical release on the Nintendo Switch.
