World of Warcraft’s sixth expansion, Legion, sold a record 3.3 million copies on launch day, Blizzard has announced.
This figure is equal with earlier expansions Warlords of Draenor and Cataclysm, making it one of the fastest-selling PC games ever to release. WoW’s launch week player concurrency also hit its highest point since the 2010 launch of Cataclysm.
CEO and co-founder of Blizzard Entertainment Mike Morhaime commented:
“It’s been a thrill to see players hunting demons, powering up Artifacts, and freely exploring all the new zones in Legion. We worked hard to make this the best World of Warcraft expansion yet, and we look forward to providing players with even more content as Legion’s epic story unfolds in the months ahead.”
