With the game reaching 20 million players across all platforms, it has managed to reach yet another milestone after being widely acclaimed by fans and critics alike. After its release on Nintendo Switch in late 2021, the developers are now gearing up to bring some graphical enhancements to the game.

Saber Interactive today announced that the PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series S|X versions of World War Z: Aftermath will be released on January 24th, 2023. Those who already own the game on PlayStation 4 or Xbox One will be getting the upgrade for free. There are some additional perks to look forward to for players who are still on last-gen consoles as they will be getting new mutators in the Horde Mode along with new weapons and revamped progression system.

World War Z: Aftermath's current-gen version will be supporting 4K resolution as well as a 60FPS refresh rate. Alongside that, there is a new mode that will be all-exclusive to current-gen consoles. Named Horde Mode XL, it cranks up the intensity of the regular Horde Mode by increasing the number of zombies to a whopping 1,000. Players on PC will also be able to access this mode. From the looks of it in the announcement trailer, it seems like this mode will wreak total havoc on the map. Quite a lot of fans are disappointed that Horde Mode XL didn't make its way to last-gen consoles, but considering the requirements of the mode, it seems more like a consequence of hardware restrictions instead of current-gen exclusivity.

World War Z: Aftermath is now available on PC, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch.
