Square Enix has revealed that sales of 2013’s well-received multiplatform adventure game Tomb Raider has surpassed 8.5 million units.

This effectively makes the “reboot” the best selling game in the Tomb Raider series. This figure appears to include sales for all versions of the game, including the Definitive Edition released for PS4 and Xbox One early last year. This also sends total sales for the series over 40 million units. Head of developer Crystal Dynamics David Gallagher said:

Tomb Raider ignited and expanded the fan base, pushing the series to a new level. The game’s incredible sales success reflects the passionate response of players. Our studio is proud of what we accomplished with the game.

The anticipated follow up, Rise of the Tomb Raider, will launch exclusively for the Xbox One later this year.
