WWE 2K22 is set to release early next year and with it comes the most requested game mode that fans have been asking for with the introduction of MyGM.

Being the General Manager of a wrestling promotion would seem like a natural game mode to include, but this has been missing from WWE games since Smackdown vs. Raw 2008.

2K and developer Visual Concepts gave us an early preview of what to expect with the game before the full reveal in January.

What's New In WWE 2K22?

For this first WWE 2K22 preview, the development team put together what they called a hit list of the 10 most anticipated innovations about the game, which were as follows:

  • Redesigned Gameplay Engine
  • New Contols
  • Stunning Graphics
  • Immersive Presentation
  • New WWE 2K Showcase
  • MyGM
  • MyFACTION
  • MyRISE
  • Universe Mode
  • Creation Suite

The Return of the Most Requested MyGM Mode In WWE 2K22

While there's a lot in the above list that sounds intriguing, the one that is likely to excite players the most is the introduction of MyGM in WWE 2K22.

This is a game mode that players have been requesting year after year to be added to the series, as it hasn't been in a WWE game in 14 years.

Visual Concepts already has experience with a MyGM style mode in NBA 2K, so it seems fitting that they would finally bring it over to the WWE 2K series as well.

While we were not given too much information about this, they did state that you can expect to draft superstars, book matches, manage superstars, and more. They also mentioned that this would take you from high school gyms all the way up to WWE prime time TV.

Avoiding The Debacle That Was 2K20

After seemingly being on the right track for a few years, WWE 2K20 literally killed the series for a year and a large part of that was how glitchy and poorly executed the gameplay engine was.

The good news is that one of WWE 2K22's most important changes is with the engine itself. Visual Concepts rebuilt the entire gameplay and animation engine from the ground up to make it feel just like you are sitting ringside while playing.

This also carries over to the new controls, which are designed to create "frictionless gameplay." There will be more options at your disposal, while also still being more accessible. More than 30,000 existing moves will be returning along with 5,000 new ones as well.

There will be better setups, bigger attacks, and more dramatic breakouts as players have more opportunities to demonstrate their skills of mastery. The dev team stated that their goal was for every match to be a balance of both risk and reward.

The visuals are also looking to be improved, though no mention was given on how different the new generation consoles impacted this. However, they did say that they completely overhauled lighting, camera angles, and textures to make the game feel more realistic than ever.

They even use the same scanning rig as the NBA 2K series, so you can hope to expect that level of quality with the superstar visuals and the true to life animations as a result of motion capture.

The immersive presentation strives to have the most authentic WWE atmosphere from the second you first load up the game, including the crowd. The game will feature rooting section and will feature audience anticipation for big moves for your favorite wrestlers.

New And Retooled Game Modes

WWE 2K22 is set to have a number of game modes besides MyGM, including improvements on existing ones and even some new ones too. One of these is MyRISE mode, which is the new version of MyCAREER.

The decision was made to rename this mode to let people know how you rise from the humble beginnings to the peak of superstardom. Along the way, you will be able to make your own choices, create alliances, make enemies, and experience branching results due to these decisions.

2K Showcase is also back in WWE 2K22, this time focusing on the legend Rey Mysterio. There was no mention of anything too new here though, so you can probably expect more of the same as the past, though this time with a focus on Rey Mysterio instead with documentary footage and the like.

Brand new to WWE 2K22 is MyFACTION, which enables you to build your own legendary crew to rival the likes of legends such as NWO or the Four Horsewomen. This will allow you to select from different eras of WWE to build your Faction as well.

They did specifically mention that this would be the only game mode in the game to feature the infamous VC, aka Virtual Currency. However, they did say that this doesn't offer any sort of competitive advantage of pay-to-win scenario.

Similar to Seasons in NBA 2K22, it sounds like MyFACTION is going to be getting updates all year long to keep it fresh, though it will also exist as a single player game mode in WWE 2K22.

Rather than turning Universe Mode into a MyGM, they actually are still keeping it in the game as a separate game mode. They didn't really say anything other than you will have even more control over brands, PPV, and more.

Lastly, the Creation Suite is back again in WWE 2K22 and will allow you to do all you were able to do in the past with creating custom arenas, championships, superstars, and more. What is new this time though are more representative body types and a persona creator for your wrestlers. They specified that there will be 10,000 customizable components here, so expect lots of unique designs to be created online as always.
