Following the publication of this story, it has come to light that the pricing revealed by the Twitter user is in New Zealand dollars and not United States dollars. This means the pricing for the US family plan will be cheaper than expected, coming in at roughly $25, but this is still TBC by Microsoft.

At present, Xbox hasn’t officially announced anything regarding the release date and pricing of Xbox's upcoming friends and family Game Pass subscription in the United States. However, it appears that Twitter user Jawmauncher has already found the answer ahead of its release.

According to their Xbox console dashboard, the subscription appears to be available now with a displayed monthly offer of $39.95, suggesting that the service might be launching pretty soon.

Xbox first announced and launched the friends and family service in select countries in September. At the time, it was available to residents of Ireland and Colombia, with the promise that more regions would be added in the following months. Prices at the time were $21.90 in Ireland and around $11.20 in Colombia, implying that the U.S. subscription may launch with a steeper price increase than the rest.

Microsoft also expanded the family plan to six more countries or regions last month. Residents of Chile, Hungary, Israel, New Zealand, South Africa, and Sweden now have access to the friends and family subscription, and the prices listed for the newly supported European markets are around €21.99 (equivalent to $24), which is considered a little less than double the price of the Game Pass Ultimate in the same countries: €12.99 ($14).

Compared to this price and the usual Game Pass Ultimate cost of $14.99/month, paying around $40 might seem a bit too much for U.S. residents. However, we have to consider that this new subscription should give 5 different users the benefits of Game Pass Ultimate, not just one.

Separately, these users would normally pay $15 each, or $75 in total, while this subscription allows them to save at least $35 in total. According to what we know and the image description, users do not have to be in the same household to benefit from the subscription, which is a welcoming feature to have, unlike Netflix's new password-sharing house-exclusive rules.

Users who are already subscribed to Game Pass Ultimate and wish to migrate to Microsoft's new friends and family subscription should be aware that the migration will follow a fixed ratio (according to the support page).

One month of Game Pass Ultimate will be worth 18 days of friends and family, but other people invited by the primary subscriber will not be able to convert their existing time. Also, if you choose to cancel at any time, your remaining time will not be converted back to Ultimate. Users also cannot their subscription with any members outside of their own country, and if a member’s country does not match the country of the primary account holder, they will be removed from the group of beneficiaries.
