Xbox Games With Gold for January 2020 Announced

Batman: The Telltale Series, Styx: Shards of Darkness, Tekken 6, and Lego Star Wars 2 lead the charge as the Xbox Games with Gold for January 2020.

Another month, another set of free games through Microsoft’s Xbox Live service. The new Xbox Games with Gold for January 2020 are rather varied, with games spanning from interactive storytelling, to family platformers, to the fighting genre. Here are all the games you will be able to get at no additional cost starting January 1, 2020:

  • Styx: Shards of Darkness
  • Batman: The Telltale Series
  • Tekken 6
  • Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy

Each one of these games will be available during certain blocks within the months of January and February 2020. Styx: Shards of Darkness will be available from January 1 to 31; Batman: The Telltale Series will be available from January 16 to February 15; Tekken 6 will be available on January 1 to 15; lastly, Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy will be available from January 16 to 31.

There are a few important things to note in regards to the upcoming Xbox Live Games with Gold. As usual, these games will only be available for Xbox Live Gold members. Also, Tekken 6 and Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy are actually Xbox 360 games, but can be played on an Xbox One with its backward compatibility feature. You will also be able to play these titles on an Xbox 360 if you are still using Microsoft’s previous console.

All in all, this month’s games add up to roughly $55. An annual subscription to Xbox Live Gold is typically $59.99. Since you do receive up to four games every month, this is a pretty solid deal. If you add Xbox Game Pass to the mix, you have a pretty solid lineup of games to play without technically purchasing a game.

Personally, I think the January 2020 Games with Gold are pretty weak in comparison to the previous months. But there is a lot of variety. Batman: The Telltale Series is by no means that the developer’s best, but it’s a pretty solid adventure with the gameplay you know and love from hits like The Walking Dead and The Wolf Among Us. Also, Lego Star Wars II: The Original Trilogy is great if you want to play along with the family and is a pretty great iteration of the popular Lego games.
