There are all kinds of issues that show up at times when it comes to gaming consoles and the latest affecting Xbox consoles crashing when playing NBA 2K22, Madden 22, or FIFA 22 is definitely one of the stranger ones.

This latest console bug is odd in that it is only seeming to affect sports games and not even all from the same company, with the NBA issue dating back a few weeks.

This has been going on for a while now and still seems to be causing problems for some gamers when trying to play these games, but Xbox is evidently still working diligently to get it fixed.

What Is The Console Crashing Issue With NBA, Madden, and FIFA?

While it has been an issue for a few weeks on Xbox, even more mention of console crashing started popping up very recently about people having some major issues when trying to specifically play NBA 2K22 on Xbox Series X or S as we previously reported ourselves a couple of weeks ago.

When trying to load up NBA 2K22 on Xbox Series X/S, a number of people have had the system crashing followed by a message stating that the console is designed to be automatically shut down due to poor ventilation.

However, there are no actual ventilation issues for players with their consoles it sounds like, but rather some sort of glitch that is triggering it.

NBA 2K22 hasn't been the only game with issues either, as other people started to post recently that they were getting the same message when trying to play Madden 22 and FIFA 22 as well, with the latter only being available in the EA Play 10 hour free trial at this point.

This is even more interesting, as now a game from 2K Sports and two from EA Sports have led to this error, all of which happen to be sports games too.

How Did Xbox Respond?

Xbox Support is definitely one of the best in the business with responding to issues related to their consoles and this is yet another example of that.

Following the initial reports of Xbox console crashing issues with NBA 2K22, they posted the following on their Xbox Support Twitter, as well as the follow-up just the other day.

Now a few days later though, this seems to still be an issue according to the Xbox Status page, which still lists an issue with NBA 2K22, but says it is close to a fix.

Another very interesting thing is that Dexerto reports that they had a follow-up tweet that mentioned that they were investigating issues with Madden 22 and FIFA 22 as mentioned above as well, but that tweet has since been deleted entirely for some reason.

Is There A Temporary Fix for NBA 2K22?

At this point, there is no official temporary fix from Microsoft. Instead, they are just saying to stay tuned for more information.

However, like we mentioned in our initial post about the crashing, YouTuber Nvad3 has provided a temporary fix by pressing up on the d-pad continually until you load into The City when trying to load MyCareer.

This is evidently because something with the map is causing the game to crash, so canceling out before it shows up first can help to prevent this. Opening up the map after the fact though can still cause the crash, so avoid it for now.

Obviously, this is only a temporary fix, so hopefully there will be a more official fix for the Xbox console crashing with NBA 2K22, as well as Madden 22 and FIFA 22.

Fans have been waiting now for a few weeks since it first popped up, so this is something that really needs to happen sooner rather than later, especially if it is indeed affecting multiple games now.
