Xenoblade Chronicles 2 Misses Media Create Top Spot; Switch Keeps Flying High in Japan

While the Switch keeps selling like hot ramen in Japan, Xenoblade Chronicles 2 doesn't manage to conquer the top of Media Create.

First of all, Nintendo seems to have managed to at least partly solve the shortage issues that we experienced in previous months, and the Switch is selling like bowls of ramen (hotcakes aren’t really all that popular in Japan). PS4 also sees an improvement from the previous week, thanks to the beginning of the holiday shopping period.

Xenoblade Chronicles 2 has a pretty good first week, even if it certainly didn’t reach the usual debut sales of AAA-level JRPGs. Like Xenoblade Chronicles X, it missed the top spot but sold roughly 12,000 more units, and 15,000 more than the original Xenoblade Chronicles.

Interestingly, Nobunaga’s Ambition: Taishi sold about five times as many units on PS4 compared to the Switch version, probably due to the Switch’s userbase being generally younger. On the other hand, Bandai Namco’s Little Witch Academia: Chamber of Time basically flopped for a game based on an anime IP, failing to sell 10,000 copies.
