Following its surprising unveiling earlier this year, the remake of the throwback first-person shooter XIII has now been delayed.

PlayMagic and Microids announced today that this new iteration of XIII, which was originally scheduled to launch this November, has now been pushed indefinitely. The game is now slated to arrive in 2020 instead. A specific new release date hasn't been given as of this writing.

“We are thrilled with PlayMagic’s work so far. This additional development time is needed to reach the level of polish we’re aiming for," said François Coulon, the head of production at Microids. "The announcement was greeted by an overwhelming response from the community and we’ll make sure to deliver the best possible game to our fans.”

Considering how busy November 2019 is with game releases this year (Death Stranding, Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order, DOOM Eternal, etc.) maybe it's a good thing that this remake of XIII has been delayed. Perhaps it will have more success and notoriety when it ends up dropping in 2020. Then again, with how busy next year already seems to be on paper for game releases, it might be near impossible to find a window of time where XIII wouldn't be overshadowed by another major release.
