Today Nippon Ichi Software released the first batch of screenshots of its upcoming horror game Yomawari: Midnight Shadows.

The game tells the story of two girls that have to help each other as they're stranded in the darkness while returning home.

At the end of summer vacation, Yui and Haru went to see the fireworks in the backyard. However, as the night grows dark, they aren't able to find the way home. When they let go of each other's hands, they got separated.

The girls gather their courage to brave the city at night facing what lurks in the shadows.

The game alternates between the viewpoints of the two girls, what one does and learn may help the other, as their actions overlap and interact. They will also have to rely on their flashlight to illuminate the pack and find secrets.

The city is populated by ghosts that may not even be visible. When you hear the sound of the girl's heartbeat become louder, run and run, hide and use items to support your escape.

The size of the map is over double that of the game's predecessor, Yomawari: Night Alone, including the addition of a library and a ruined western-style mansion.

A change of perspective has also been added. Normally the game has a top-down view, but there are areas in which it'll switch to a side-scrolling perspective.

A First limited edition has also been announced for Japan, including a special box, an art book and a novel.

Yomawari: Midnight Shadows will release in Japan on August 24th for PS4 and PS Vita, and in the west this Fall, for PS4, PS Vita and PC.
