Today, developer Playtonic and publisher Team17 announced that upcoming 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee has gone gold, more than two months before its release, and 21 months since it first appeared on Kickstarter. Yooka-Laylee is set to launch on PS4, Xbox One, and PC on April 11th, and on the Switch at an unannounced date.

Via a blog post, Playtonic writes the following about the game's gold announcement:

“We couldn’t have reached this moment without the incredible support of our backers, fans, family and friends across the games industry. Thanks again for your unwavering enthusiasm for our studio. We hope you enjoy Yooka-Laylee when it releases on April 11!”

Additionally, Playtonic also announced that former Rare staffer Justin Cook has joined Playtonic. Cook is perhaps best known as the lead designer of Viva Pinata. The new recruit accompanied the announcement with the following few words:

“I came to Playtonic because I like working ‘hands on’ with a game as part of a small team of experts. Joining Playtonic now, feels like a chance to ‘be-there’ at the start of something special.”
