The somewhat out-of-nowhere sequel Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair was first announced back at E3 this summer. The follow-up to the nostalgic 3D platformer takes the series to the second dimension and adds a bunch of fun, new features. We've known the game was coming out next month for a few weeks, but today developer Playtonic has revealed the actual date. Give the short trailer a watch below.

In addition to the October 8 release date, the team revealed many of the new tonics coming to the game. These are different collectibles that give Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair a bit of flair. They all do different things to your experience and finding them all looks like a fun challenge. The trailer gave us a few looks at some of the tonics that will be available in the game.

The first category of tonics are ones that change up how the game looks. This can be in the form of changing Yooka and Laylee's appearance or slapping different filters over the entire game. For example, we see things like big-head mode and a sepia filter used in the trailer. Tonics can also have game-changing properties. The trailer shows off a slow-motion mode, which will make some of the more death-defying jumps much easier to complete. And with over 60 tonics to find, we can expect a number of cool surprises.

We don't have to wait much longer to try out Playtonic's sequel. Yooka-Laylee and the Impossible Lair comes to Nintendo Switch, PC, PS4, and Xbox One on October 8.
