While its reception may have been somewhat mixed, many Nintendo fans have eagerly waited for Playtonic's 3D platformer Yooka-Laylee to come to a Nintendo console since the game's initial launch back in April. Fortunately, those fans won't have to wait much longer, as Playtonic revealed through a KickStarter update that the Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee will finally be releasing next month on December 14.

That release date comes just over a year after Playtonic officially announced they were canceling the Wii U version of Yooka-Laylee in favor a Nintendo Switch port. This version has been in development since then, and while some gameplay has been shown off, no release date or window had been shared before today, with some backers worrying its release would fall back into 2018.

The Nintendo Switch version of Yooka-Laylee will, of course, include all past updates for the game. In addition, the Switch version of the game will also feature single-JoyCon play for all eight of the multiplayer games, a custom Achievement system as Nintendo doesn't really have a similar system to PlayStation's Trophies or Xbox's Achievements, and the inherent ability to play the game on the go wherever and whenever you want.
