Ever since the announcement of Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD, there has been some chatter as to whether or not Square Enix would eventually set their sights on remastering Final Fantasy XII (or even Final Fantasy XI), as the two were the only other games in the series released for the PlayStation 2.

“I haven’t heard there is a plan,” Mr. Kitase told Eurogamer, “it depends on the team who created 12. If they think it’s a good idea they might opt for it.” He also noted that the limited accessibility of PlayStation 2 titles on non-backwards compatible PlayStation 3 consoles has spurred interest in remastering the PS2 entries in the Final Fantasy¬†franchise, stating, “That’s why we wanted to remaster some of our PS2 titles. We wanted to make them more accessible and available to as many gamers as possible.”

Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD will be released for the PlayStation 3 and PS Vita on March 18th, 2014.
