Youkai Watch’s Japanese Sales Top One Million

Level 5 never did make any promises about an international release of the Japanese Nintendo 3DS title Youkai Watch, which is strange since the game has become a huge hit in its homeland.

Famitsu reports that after being available for 46 weeks 1,001,890 copies of the game have been sold. They also shared a graph (below) that shows how the game’s sales have progressed since it’s July 2013 launch until May 2014. The popularity of the game’s anime adaptation and buzz for the upcoming sequel are cited as factors behind the strong continued sales.

While this is great news, I wonder if Level 5 has deemed the series “too Japanese” for international release. What do you think?
