Falcom unveiled new information for PS4 exclusive Ys IX Monstrum Nox. We've got new details on the party members previously revealed with the cast, gameplay videos featuring each one of them and details on the limited edition; New screenshots and a short web commercial with new gameplay were published as well.

Doll (previously translated as Puppet before the official English spelling was announced)

A beautiful doll made by a first-rate craftsman. She has an unusual power which allows her to detect things invisible to the eyes of humans or other Monstrum. She's the most mysterious Monstrum in Balduk, and as a doll, she fights using movements impossible for humans. She states that as a doll, she cannot display human emotions.  She gets into contact with Adol as it seems she has a certain objective in mind.

Doll's Monstrum ability is called "The Third Eye", both in English and in Japanese. With it, Doll can temporarily see certain gimmicks, invisible enemies, see through walls to check for hidden passages or chests, see recent footsteps, and the like. Like all the other Monstrum, her power can be used anywhere, any time, be it in dungeons or in the city of Balduk. (As a reminder, these short gameplay videos purposefully don't have any sound nor the game's UI.)

Renegade (previously translated as Apostle)

A Monstrum wearing strange, tattered clothes. Pessimistic and antisocial, very few inhabitants of Balduk ever actually saw him. It also seems like Renegade knows something about the Gilia Eltlingen region and the city of Balduk that no one else knows.

Renegade's Monstrum ability is called Shadow Dive in English and written as "The Gate of Shadow" in Japanese. He can turn his body into a shadow, allowing him to move on surfaces. This allows him to slip into narrow places. Turning into a shadow also makes Renegade invisible to enemies. This can be useful when encountering foes too powerful to fight, or for surprise attacks.

Raging Bull

A Monstrum with incredible physical strength. She wields a giant hammer in battle, daringly displaying her power. Unlike White Cat who steals from the rich to give to the poor, and Hawk who attacks people, Raging Bull isn't into criminal deeds. She has sound judgment and also tries to stop fights between the other Monstrum. It seems like some of her relatives also live in Balduk.

Raging Bull's Monstrum ability is called Valkyrie Hammer in English and written as "The Battle Maiden's Salvation" in Japanese. With her hammer and physical prowess, she can destroy certain obstacles, break enemies' guards and blow them away.

Limited Edition details

Ys IX Monstrum Nox is getting a "Limited Collector's Box" Limited Edition in Japan, for 9800 Yen plus tax. It'll include:

  • A novel tentatively titled "Ys IX The Day Before ~The Lost Dragon Sword~"
  • Wanted posters for Adol and the Monstrum. These have unique information on the characters, including walkthrough-like information that will help discover certain secrets in the game.
  • Ys IX Original Soundtrack Mini Code: Black, an OST with certain BGMs from the game

The novel is set before the beginning of Ys IX, right after Adol and Dogi left Altago following the events of Ys Seven. In the novel, Adol and Dogi are heading towards Balduk in the Gilia Eltlingen region, located in the north of the continent of Elesia. They end up saving a certain blacksmith and get tangled in an incident involving a treasured sword called the Cariosilion. It seems like it's the sword Adol was supposed to get following the events of Ys Seven, seems he lost it.
